Story about Skin picking
I had been dealing with skin picking for roughly 20 years, starting after my mother’s death. Picking moved from small spots to scabs, nails and other areas, sometimes lasting hours. I tried fidget tools, artificial nails and therapy. Yoga later provided a calmer state and supported a period without facial picking. I see this as continuing recovery, not a cure.
Story about Skin picking
I had bitten and picked skin around the fingers since approximately age 15. Bandages and finger covers created temporary barriers, while journaling helped me look for emotional or situational patterns. Because the behavior sometimes appeared automatic, no single trigger emerged. I am still trying. This is not a finished success story, but it is an honest account of where I am now.
Story about Skin picking
I shaved my head hoping that removing access to longer hair would stop me from picking. Seeing the extent of scabs increased awareness, but shaving also harmed confidence and did not address every trigger. For me, shaving wasn't a magic solution, and I wouldn't assume it would work for everyone.
