Story about People-pleasing
Shared by isabellethekey
I used to be a people-pleaser. I genuinely believed that making others happy would make me happy too.
What others thought or said about me mattered so much. I rarely questioned it, until one day my mom told me something that changed the way I looked at things.
She said, “You apologise once, twice at most. If the other person still doesn't understand who you are and what kind of person you are, why are you investing so much of yourself in that relationship?”
That simple sentence stayed with me.
I started to realise that I didn't need to be liked or understood by everyone. I needed to spend my time doing things that mattered to me and being around people who made me feel valued and special.
Sometimes, change doesn't require endless sessions of psychological support. Sometimes, one sentence, one moment of clarity, is enough to make you question your behaviour and start changing it.
I guess the important thing is to be open enough to listen, reflect and recognise when something needs to change.
You deserve to feel special too. And you don't have to please everyone to deserve that.
